Welcome to Universal Verify! These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of our services, including the Universal Verify website, platform, and any related applications or integrations (collectively, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old or the age in which you can consent to these terms of use in your jurisdiction, whichever is greater, to use the Service. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you meet these requirements.

2. Description of the Service

• Universal Verify allows users to upload official identification ("ID") to verify their identity and optionally share that verification with third-party platforms ("Partners") through a permissioned OAuth process.
• Your ID is uploaded directly to a secure, region-specific server ("regional server") that complies with local data residency laws. These regional servers store and process sensitive ID data.
• Our main application infrastructure ("core systems") — which powers the Universal Verify user interface and integration logic — never stores or processes your uploaded ID or sensitive personal data.
• Only limited information (e.g., email, ID type, ID expiration year, and the country where the ID is stored) is retained on our core systems.

3. Your Responsibilities

• You must provide accurate and lawful information.
• You may not upload false, forged, stolen, or otherwise unauthorized identification documents.
• You agree not to misuse the Service or attempt unauthorized access to any part of it.
• You are prohibited from creating multiple accounts or attempting to bypass the account verification process in any way. Any attempt to do so may result in account suspension or termination.

4. Account and Integration Controls

• You may connect to third-party Partner platforms via Universal Verify.
• When connecting, you'll be presented with a list of information scopes the Partner is requesting.
• You have full control to grant or deny each individual scope via toggle.
• Each integration receives a unique, non-linkable identifier to protect your privacy across Partners.
• You can disconnect integrations or revoke access at any time.

5. Data Storage and Residency

• ID data is stored exclusively on secure servers located in countries that comply with the data residency requirements of the ID's origin country. For example, data from Icelandic IDs may be stored in Ireland in accordance with GDPR.
• You will be informed where each part of your data will be stored before uploading.
• We use secure, encrypted connections and regional data storage to minimize risk.

6. Intellectual Property

All content and technology provided by Universal Verify is owned by us or our licensors. You may not copy, modify, or distribute our content without written permission.

7. Disclaimers

• The Service is provided "as is" and "as available."
• While we take reasonable measures to secure your data and prevent unauthorized access, we cannot guarantee uninterrupted access, error-free operation, or absolute security. For example, if a user's device is compromised during the transmission of their ID, this could pose a risk to their data security. No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is fully secure, and we cannot ensure complete protection against all potential risks.
• We are not responsible for how third-party Partners use your information once you've granted them access.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

9. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Service at our sole discretion, with or without notice, if you violate these Terms or use the Service in a harmful or unlawful manner.

10. Modifications to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will notify you by email or through the Service. Continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes your acceptance of the new Terms.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed under the laws of the State of Virginia, United States, without regard to its conflict of law principles. However, you acknowledge that your data may be stored and processed in other jurisdictions, and that such storage and processing may be subject to the laws and regulations of those jurisdictions.
